During this time, as a result of this experience, she\u00a0was moved to commence postgraduate studies in urban planning and design. Her\u00a0local area bears all the hallmarks of outer suburban development and in this\u00a0spatial complex she is considering how this pattern shapes us as individuals\u00a0and shapes our communities. With reference to notions of &#8216;dwelling&#8217;\u00a0(Heidegger), &#8216;redirective practice&#8217; (Fry) and &#8216;synoikismos&#8217; (Ingersoll), the\u00a0eBook considers local encounters, responding in small ways, in thought and\u00a0act, that disrupt &#8211; and ultimately transform &#8211; the pattern of suburban life.\u00a0If we transform the suburbs and our way of thinking about them, can we\u00a0transform ourselves and bring new futures into the realm of possibility? Can\u00a0community and gathering displace consumerism and retreat?
